Unilever’s Suave Professional Hair Treatment Product Sued for Causing Hair Loss in New Class Action Lawsuit
Consumers of Unilever’s Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion 30 Day Smoothing Kit have sued the company for deceptive advertising, claiming the product causes significant hair loss.
According to the complaint, plaintiffs purchased the hair product because they believed Unilever’s false representations that the product would smooth their hair and coat it with Keratin, a protein naturally found in hair. The Suave product was marketed and sold as a budget-friendly product to compete with more expensive Keratin-infusion salon treatments such as the Brazilian Blow-Out. According to plaintiffs, the Suave product contained ingredients that resulted in significant hair loss when applied to their hair. Unilever recalled the product in May, 2012 after receiving numerous complaints from consumers about its adverse effects.
The plaintiffs are now suing Unilever asserting consumer fraud, breach of express and implied warranties, and unjust enrichment. The case has been filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on behalf of all consumers who have purchased the product.
