Bagels Recalled due to Metal Contamination
Several popular brands of bagels have been recalled due to the possible presence of metal fragments.
BBU Inc, the parent company of Bimbo Bakeries, has initiated a voluntarily recall after receiving two reports of bagel packages that contained metal bits and fragments. BBU Inc is responsible for manufacturing Thomas, Sara Lee, Publix, and Weight Watchers brand bagels.
In total, eight varieties of Thomas bagels, four varieties of Sara Lee bagels, three varieties of Publix’s bagels and one type of Weight Watchers bagel have been affected by this recall. All recalled bagels have best-by dates of “January 27” listed on the bags.
The company announced the recall last week and blames a faulty manufacturing plant for metal fragments entering the bagels during the production process. The bagels were distributed nationwide and have since been removed from store shelves. No injuries or complaints have been reported.
