Bell Sports, Inc Settles Class Action Lawsuit

A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit against Bell Sports, Inc. The lawsuit claimed that Be and Taxi brand children’s bicycle seats as “MADE IN USA” in violation of California law, which prohibits false claims of origin for products. Bell Sports, Inc. has admitted to no wrong doing, but says it is settling in order to avoid the costs of litigation.

Class members include anyone who purchased a Taxi or Limo brand bicycle seat in California between January 7, 2006 and March 1, 2012 that had a “MADE IN USA” or “MADE IN THE USA” label on it. Class members who purchased a Taxi product are entitled to a $10 payment and class members who purchased a Limo product are entitled to a $13 payment. In addition to these payments Bell Sports has agreed to donate $100,000 worth of bicycle helmets to charitable organizations that provide athletic equipment to disadvantaged kids.

Only Class Members who submit a Claim Form by August 10, 2012 will be eligible to participate in the settlement. The Final settlement hearing is scheduled for August 31, 2012 at 8:30 a.m. in Department 65 of the San Diego County Superior Court.
