Banana Boat Recalls Spray-On Sunscreen after Users Catch on Fire

Energizer Holdings, the makers of Banana Boat sunscreen products, are recalling 23 varieties of their UltraMist Spray-on Sunscreen lotions after numerous reports of consumers catching on fire after applying the lotion have been reported.

The UltraMist line of sunscreen products comes in aerosol spray-on cans. The spray valves used to apply the lotion are over-applying the product and as a result, the lotion is taking longer to dry and increases the risks of flammability. So far, four people in the US and one person in Canada have caught on fire after they applied the lotion and stood near open flames. Brett Sigworth is among the small group of people affected by the recall. Sigworth suffers from second-degree burns on his chest, ear, and back after he applied the UltraMist sunscreen and stood in front of a barbeque grill.

More than 20 million units have been sold since UltraMist first launched in 2010. The company is in the process of fixing the issue and expects to have UltraMist sunscreen lotions back on store shelves soon. Consumers with questions or complaints regarding this recall should contact the company directly.
