Portable Generators Sold at Costco Recalled Due to Fire Hazard
Champion Power Equipment is recalling 8,600 of their portable generators due to possible fire and safety hazards. The portable generators were sold exclusively at Costco Wholesale stores from December 2011 through July 2012 for $700.00.
Only portable generators with model numbers 41332 and 41532 are affected by this recall. Fuel can leak from the generators’ carburetors and pose a serious fire hazard. So far, there have been eleven reports of fuel leaking from generators, eight reports of generators catching fire, and two reports of property damage.
Champion Power Equipment portable generators are manufactured in China and sold nationwide at Costco Wholesale stores. Both models provide portable power for home and commercial use. Consumers should stop using the recalled generators immediately and contact Champion Power Equipment for a free repair kit to be installed by an authorized dealer. The consumer may also return the unit to Costco for a full refund.
