Bumble Bee Food Recalls Canned Tuna due to Contamination

Bumble Bee Foods LLC. has initiated a voluntary recall of their canned Chunk White Albacore and Chunk Light Tuna. The company announced the recall after learning the protective seals used on both products were too loose and failed to meet the company’s safety standards.

Only Bumble Bee Chunk White Albacore and Chunk Light Tuna sold in 5-ounce packages are affected by this recall.  Both products are packaged in metal cans and fastened shut with protective seals. An error in production did not properly seal the packages and therefore, can cause spoilage and contamination. The recalled Bumble Bee products were distributed on January 17 and February 28 and sold nationwide. Available on the FDA website is a complete list of Bumble Bee products and their UPC codes included in this recall.

The company has received no reports of illnesses associated with these products. Bumble Bee Foods is working closely with retailers to remove the recalled products from store shelves and distribution. Consumers who have purchased the recalled products should discard the product immediately.

If you have purchased a product and suspect it poses serious health and safety hazards, contact Khorrami, LLP for a confidential consultation.
