Chicken of the Sea Tuna Recall

Tri-Union Seafoods LLC, makers of “Chicken of the Sea” products are recalling their solid white albacore tuna due to a labeling error.  The product’s label does not list soy, a recognized allergen, as an ingredient on the package label. People who have allergic or severe sensitivity to soy products run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions.

The problem was first discovered after a routine audit conducted by Tri-Union Seafoods.  Chicken of the Sea solid white albacore tuna, the product affected by this recall, was distributed in October and November 2012. The product was sold exclusively to Costco Warehouse stores in California, Arizona, Washington, Utah, Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, New Mexico, Colorado, Montana, Idaho, and Nevada.  Consumers who purchased the product with UPC code 048000000972 are asked to return it to the Costco location where they purchased it for a full refund.

No other Chicken of the Sea products have been affected by this recall and there have been no reports of illness or adverse reactions. The company’s president, Shue Wing Chan, issued a statement assuring consumers the company was taking “corrective steps” to better label their products.  Consumers looking for additional information can contact the company directly.

If you have purchased a product and suspect that the product poses health or safety hazards, contact Khorrami, LLP for a confidential consultation.
