Infant Travel Beds Recalled After Fatal Injury

KidCo Inc. is recalling 220,000 of their PeaPod and PeaPod Plus Travel Beds after several reports of suffocation and entrapment were reported.

The KidCo PeaPod Travel Beds and PeaPod Plus Travel Beds are small, portable sleep tents marketed for use by infants from birth to three years old. The travel beds include inflatable air mattresses which infants and young children can roll off of and become entrapped between the mattress and the sides of the tent. This can lead to the child suffocating. In total, KidCo Inc. has received 10 reports of children who became entrapped or experienced physical distress in the product. One of the reports includes the death of a 5-month-old boy who was found with his face pressed against the side wall of the tent. The cause of death has not been determined.

Ten different models of PeaPod and PeaPod Plus Travel Beds are affected by this recall. The tents were sold at independent juvenile specialty stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com from January 2005 through the present for between $70 and $100.  A complete list of those model numbers affected by this recall can be found here. Consumers should immediately stop using the tents and contact KidCo to get a free repair kit.
